I am a decedent of Byrd Whittington and granddaughter of James O. Whittington of Amarillo, TX.  I am
seeking relatives of Bryd Whittington who did not migrate to Eastland County.

When is the cemetary day for the Davilla Cemetery?  If possible, I would like to be there on that day.

Ms. Carson, I do find a Bird (Byrd) Whittington interred in the Davilla Cemetery. The headstone is engraved
"Bird". The following reference is courtesy of the Find A Grave website:

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Whittington&GSfn=Bird&GSby=1807&GSbyrel=in&GSdy=1886
&GSdyrel=in&GSst=46&GScnty=2685&GScntry=4&GSob=n&GRid=15666742&df=all

&  Ms. Holman has Whittington family members listed in eleven of the 235 cemeteries in, and immediately
surrounding, Milam County.

The Cargill family is responsible for the excellent maintenance of the Davilla Cemetery. The Milam County
Historical Commission has commended them for their efforts on numerous occasions. They have also assisted with
several MCHC inquiries as well. I will be happy to forward your email to them in the hopes that they will once
again assist one of our website guests.

Respectfully, Jack Brooks

Hi Ms. Cargill,

I'm not sure if Ms. Kathleen Carson, in the previous email, is referring to an annual cemetery workday or possibly an annual reunion/homecoming that's held on the grounds. I know that both are quite popular with Milam County cemeteries that have associations.

Should you hold either of the above, would you be kind enough to extend her an invitation?. If so, would you also allow me to be cc'd so that other family members visiting the MCHC Davilla Cemetery site might be aware of the same event?.

Once again, thank you for your assistance in answering our inquiries and kindness toward our Milam County Guests.

Respectfully,
Jack Brooks

The Davilla Cemetery Association does not have cemetery days at this time.  I will research and see if I can find anything at all on the Whittington family and get back with you as soon as possible.
Thank you,

Patty Cargill

I researched the book I have on burials in Davilla Cemetery and found the following:
Bird Whittington 1807 – 1886
E M Whittington 1839 – 1900
Mary J Whittington, w/o Bryant 1846 – 1885
Riley Whittington, s/o B M 1871 – 1893
Sarah Whittington, w/o Bird 1812 – 1893
_____ Whittington, d/o B M – b/d 1885

I also glanced thru minutes and entries from a copy of our Davilla Baptist Church first book (organized in 1866) and found the following:
Emma Whittington – church letter August 19… (unable to read year)
George Whittington & wife – dismissed 4/3/1881
Maranda Whittington 11/12/1873 by statement
James P Whittington 11/12/1873 by experience
James and Maranda Whittington dismissal granted 9/4/1875
“Mr Taylor (?) stole a beef or beaves from James Whittington”
J W Whittington – baptized 8/31/1878
Sarah W Whittington – baptized 11/05/1871

Davilla Baptist Church of Christ Church Members:
Sarah Whittington – 7/6/1868; 12/03/1881 and 11/01/1884
Sarah Whittington dismissed 4/03/1887
Sarah Whittington replaced on church book 3/03/1883

1870 Census:
Bryant and Mary J Whittington – farmers
Bird and Sarah Whittington – farmers
John and Elizabeth Whittington – farmers

These minutes are very hard to read and I was just scanning thru trying to “catch” Whittington name.  Hope some of this is useful to you,

Patty Cargill
