Hello.
I am planning on coming to Milam County sometime in mid-June.  I am interested in an historic place called
San Xavier Mission Complex Archeological District.  I would like to know if it possible to photograph the
place.

Thank you.

Hello, Rene. There are other members in the MCHC who are much more knowledgeable of the San Xavier Missions
than myself. That being said, I will share some of what I know with the hopes that those more knowledgeable
will expound upon the subject for you.

First off, I would highly recommend that you purchase The San Xavier Missions Report # 16, by Dr. Kathleen
Kirk Gilmore. See attachment #1 & 2.

This 1969 reference was republished in 2010 and is available at the Milam County Historical Museum in
Cameron, Texas. Contact as follows: Tel. (254) 697-8963 -  112 W. 1st St. Cameron, TX. 76520.  The museum
would be able to quote an exact price, but I believe that it is in the $30-40 price range. Shipping would be
additional. It is an absolute bargain considering the information that may be gleaned from the book
regarding the Mission sites and the related archeological digs. All profits derived from the sale are
dedicated to MCHC preservation projects.

All three Mission sites are located within a two mile circle off FM 908 about 7 miles northwest of Rockdale,
TX.. No physical traces of the Missions remain with the exception of  a Texas Historical Commission
Centennial Marker (1936) at each location.

1. Mission San Ildefonso; take FM 908 approximately six miles n/w of Rockdale  and turn left on CR 429 and
proceed 0.3 miles to marker on your left.

2. Mission San Francisco Xavier de los Dolores; located on the right (north) side of the road on a bank
approximately seven miles n/w of Rockdale on FM 908.

3. Mission Nuestra Senora de la Candelaria; Take FM 908 approximately seven and one half miles to CR 432 and
turn left. Marker will be 0.3 mile down the road opposite the San Andres (Lebanon) Cemetery.

I will be mailing a Milam County Historical map to you that is partially funded by a Certified Local
Government Grant from the National Park Service, U.S. Dept. of the Interior, administered by the Texas
Historical Commission. It shows the Mission sites as well as other points of interest in Milam County.

In our www.milamcountyhistoricalcommission.org  website may be found additional information on the San
Xavier Missions. Once the site is accessed, type in San Xavier Missions in the search box in the upper right
of the screen.

If I may be of additional assistance, please feel free to reply.

Respectfully,
Jack Brooks
