#16 - Sheriff Abraham D. Cooper was appointed on September 18, 1865 by Governor A. J.
Hamilton; elected June 25, 1866 and served until April 1869 when he was disqualified.

He married Sarah Elizabeth Winston on February 3, 1869 and had three children, Mary
Annie, Louetta and Alice.

He was born in North Carolina on August 3, 1817 and died August 26, 1900.

Sheriff Cooper was also one of the organizers of the Masonic lodge in Cameron.

He is buried in the Winston family cemetery near Minerva.

His family owned property of various acreage in the Minerva community.

He is the grandfather of Mrs. Frank W. Perrin of Cameron.
