The president general of Daughters of the America Revolution’s (DAR) national organization, who spends part of her time on a ranch near Rockdale, will officiate in a re-dedication ceremony at the county’s oldest settlement during the first weekend in June.

Lynn Forney Young will officiate as the DAR re-dedicates Centennial Park on US 79 at the Brazos River, just inside the Milam County line.

It marks the site of Nashville, seat of Milam County from 1837 to 1846 and once considered in the running to be named capital of Texas. The small park had become the site of vandalism in recent years.

Young and husband, Steve, own a cattle ranch in Milam County near Rockdale. Steve Young is the son of George and Geneva Young of Rockadale.

Steve and Lynn Young were recently recognized for restoration and preservation of a historic cemetery located on their property.

She has been a DAR member for 38 years and previously served as national recording secretary and state regent of Texas, the largest DAR state society with almost 18,000 members in 200 chapters.

She is the first Texas DAR member in the society’s 125 years to be elected president general.

Her family has lived in Houston for generations and she is the fourth generation of DAR/SAR (Sons of the American Revolution)/ CAR (Children of theAmerican Revolution) members.
