Grant Assures Reporter File History Online
Rockdale Reporter - September 5, 2013
Attention genealogists and Rockdale history buffs. The most anticipagted online research resource for our town’s history is on the way.
The Tocker Foundation has advised the city library it is awarding a $20,642 grant to digitize microfilm archives of The Rockdale Reporter and place them online as part of the University of North Texas’s Digital Newspaper program.
The grant covers the years 1899 to 1965. The Tocker Foundation will not provide funds for digitizing any newspapers more recent than 1965.
“This is a 100-percent grant and there are no matching funds for the city,” City Manager Kelvin Knauf said.
There are some gaps in Reporter files between 1899 and 1911 but Librarian Melanie Todd noted UNT has other resources and may be able to fill in some of the “blanks.”
