City library patrons can now read two history volumes on the Lilac community, which were the subject of a recent series of Reporter columns by historian Joy Graham.
Author Dorothy McQuary Callaway, now 90, donated her works “Lilac Festival: A Memoir” and “Lilac Before Lilac Festival” to the library.
Making the presentation was history buff Jerry Caywood of Bastrop who served as intermediary for the donation.
Librarian Melanie Todd accepted.
Mrs. Callaway was born at the family’s McQuary Farm near Lilac in 1922 and became a teacher with a career that extended throughout Texas and Arkansas to Taiwan (Republic of China).
