Courthouse restoration officials in Milam and Lampasas counties received good news Thursday as the Texas Historical Commission announced 19 recipients of Round 1 grants from the Courthouse Preservation Program.
Milam is to receive $2,902,492 and Lampasas will get $2,355,422.
Dr.Frank Summers, Milam County judge, said the grant funds, coupled with the county's match of $700,000 to $800,000 through certificates of obligations, would fully fund a $3.7 million restoration project for the 1892-era courthouse.
Summers said he had no information on when Milam County would receive grant funds, but said the news that Milam County won a grant is "fantastic.
"Milam County's grant award was the fifth largest among the counties selected to receive state funds toward rebuilding and restoring courthouses that were deemed by the Texas Historical Commission as uniquely historical.
