RE: 2014 Pruett Reunion
The following is an update regarding the Pruett Family Reunion planned for September 1st (Labor Day), 2014 in Rockdale, Milam County, Texas:
There will be a Pruett Family Reunion in Rockdale on September 1, 2014 at the Fair Park Pavilion. We are celebrating 170 years of Pruett family traditions! The meal will be potluck; please bring a side/dessert and your drink of choice. BBQ grills will be available if you want to bring a meat and electric is available for cookers/crock pots (bring extension cords, serving utensils, etc.). Please bring enough to share. We have plenty of tables and chairs, however, you are encouraged to bring your own lawn chairs. Lunch will be served at noon. Henry Pruett and Eleline Rencher started their journey in Alabama in 1843, travelled through Mississippi and ended up in Milam County, Texas in 1870. They had nine children and well over a thousand descendants in total. If you think you might be a descendant, there is genealogical work available on the family tree and you could be listed there. Please feel free to contact Thomas E. Pruett by phone, email, or Facebook with the links provided below. For inquiries and RVSP, please email Thomas Pruett at tepruett@gmail.com, or call at (618) 339-6478 (voicemail). Alternate contact: Donna Hammond Lane, Austin, Texas, (512) 568-1070. The International & Great Northern Depot-Museum, the town’s landmark, is in danger of closing. Dave Phillips, president of the Rockdale Historical Society, which restored the 108-year-old showpiece, said in a letter to society volunteers this week the group is facing a financial crunch.

“The Depot-Museum has had to make several costly repairs to the air conditioning system,” he said. “Repairs have been completed but there is not enough money to pay for this item.”

“Donations are down considerably and we have also lost some vital monthly support from some of our biggest donors,” he said.

That has put the society “seriously low on operating funds,” Phillips said.

CLOSING - He noted that the situation has put the museum’s continued operation in jeopardy.

“If we are not able to raise money quickly, shutting the doors to the museum may quickly become the only option,” Phillips said.

The depot museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays.

In addition, it plays a major role in many community functions including the Tejas Fest, library summer reading program, Christmas activities and more.

“It’s a vital and amazing piece of our town’s history,” Phillips said.

“We will have a silent auction again this year, so if you wish, bring an item to auction off to raise funds for next year’s reunion. Be sure to pass the word on to family members and friends and let’s make this a big, fun event,” Martin said. For more info, call Martin at 979-209-4563.
