BUCKHOLTS CHURCH ANNIVERSARY

Hope Lutheran Church in Buckholts will hold a Worship of Thanksgiving and Celebration 10:15 a.m. Sunday - August 30, 2015 - as part of its 125th anniversary celebration.

The service will be followed by a potluck dinner. The Rev. Judith Spindt will be the guest speaker. She is the Director for Evangelical Mission in the Southwestern Texas Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Spindt is fluent in Spanish and has served congregations in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.

This event is free and open to the public.

Hope Lutheran began with a few pioneer settlers in 1890. The group met in homes, a school and then in a Methodist church building before building their own in 1925. Services were held by the Rev. Julius Schroeder, a missionary from Germany. He was followed by the Rev. H.F. Daude, who also came from Germany and conducted services in German once a month.

In 1925, the church received a piece of land that had previously been used for a cotton yard.

A new building was built and housed the church until the current building was built in 1975. Fifteen pastors, and several interim pastors, have served the congregation since the church was founded.

The church is located at N. 10th St., Buckholts.
