I am trying to research my family history.  My mother's maiden name was Yates.  There are a lot of my relatives living or buried in Milam County.

I have come to a brick wall with my genealogy.

My gg-grandfather was John Yates.  His wife was Annie Lou Fisher.  Annie is buried at Little River Cemetery.  I cannot find where John is buried, or where he died.  Annie Lou had moved to Waco when she was old and lived with one of her sons and died in Waco.

I think that John was born in Texas, maybe Limestone County.  I am not sure who John's parents were.

One of my cousins just sent me a picture of a Thomas Franklin Yates (the 2nd).  I believe that he is buried at Port Sullivan Cemetery.  I am not sure how he is related to me.

I am not sure if your group would know anything or not about the Yates family.  This may be a question for the Genealogical Society.  I'm not sure how to get in touch with them.

Please contact me and let me know if you can help me with any of this.

Thank you.

Danny is my cousin and I have been helping, well until I got off task.  I believe Mr. Yates is most likely buried in Little River but there is no mention of his gravestone in the Holman book.  I hope to go do pictures one day there but it is a 2 day, full day job to photo inventory that cemetery at the minimum.  I did photo inventory Port Sullivan.  I’ll message him.  I know he has done DNA and this can help with the brick walls!

Danny, it looks as if there were two John Yates in McLennan County - John Raymond Yates and a John B Yates. John Raymond Yates' records show he died in McLennan County on 4 August 1941. You could purchase this death certificate if it matches anything you have. It would show the burial site.

Have you checked 'Findagrave'? It is free and pretty good.

Good luck.
