Across the tracks’
That’s the title of a history of Rockdale’s East Side, written by Dr. Dennis L. Brooks, which was the subject of a program Thursday evening at the city library. The program drew an estimated 80 persons, one of the largest crowds to attend one of the evening library programs. Dr. Brooks is a Rockdale native who returned to his hometown not only to pastor a congregation but also to establish The Institute for Teaching God’s Word, which has prepared hundreds of persons for the ministry. Dr. Brooks’ history deals with Rockdale from a black perspective, showing “obstacles faced and how black residents not only went on to thrive but to make life better for many generations to come.”
